How can
we help?

CreatorCut is a small, focused app made by one person. There are no accounts and nothing to log into — so most questions are about permissions, purchases, or where your files went. Check the FAQ below, and if you're still stuck, email us. We read every message.

The camera preview is black or empty

First, make sure CreatorCut has camera and microphone permission: Settings → CreatorCut on iPhone/iPad, or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera / Microphone on Mac. If you're testing in the iOS Simulator, the preview will always be blank — the Simulator can't drive a real camera. Use a physical device. On Mac, if you have multiple cameras (including a Continuity Camera iPhone), pick the one you want in Settings.

How do I get both a portrait and a landscape video?

That's the whole idea — record one take, get both cuts. Set the output format to Both and CreatorCut saves a face-tracked 9:16 portrait version and the full 16:9 landscape version from the same recording. On iPhone, tap the format chip in the top toolbar to cycle Both → Portrait → Landscape. On Mac, choose it in Settings. Pick Portrait only or Landscape only and the other render is skipped.

Why can't I record in 4K?

Two things have to be true. First, 4K is a Pro feature. Second, the camera you're using has to actually support 4K — CreatorCut only shows resolutions your current camera can deliver. The Mac's built-in FaceTime camera tops out at 1080p, and an iPhone used as a Continuity Camera on a Mac is capped at 1080p by macOS itself, even though the same iPhone shoots 4K when you run CreatorCut directly on it. For 4K, run CreatorCut on a 4K-capable iPhone.

What does CreatorCut Pro unlock?

The free tier already includes dual portrait + landscape capture and face-tracked framing. Pro adds:

  • Unlimited recording length (free is capped at 60 seconds per take);
  • Up to 4K capture, where your camera supports it;
  • The full teleprompter — overlay, pop-out window (Mac), and voice-paced scrolling;
  • Watermark control — move it, restyle it, or turn it off.

Pro is available monthly, yearly (both with a 7-day free trial), or as a one-time, family- shareable Lifetime purchase. See the Terms for pricing and billing details.

I paid before — how do I get Pro back?

On a new device or after reinstalling, tap Restore Purchases. It's on the paywall and in Settings → Subscription. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy. Restoring is free and re-activates your subscription or Lifetime purchase.

How do I cancel my subscription or get a refund?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. To cancel or turn off auto-renew, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → CreatorCut on your device and choose Cancel. You keep Pro until the end of the period you already paid for. For refunds, use Apple's portal at reportaproblem.apple.com — we can't issue refunds directly because we never process the payment.

Where are my recordings saved?

On iPhone/iPad, finished videos save straight to your Photos library (and are also accessible in the Files app under On My iPhone → CreatorCut). On Mac, you choose a folder when you save and CreatorCut writes the portrait, landscape, and thumbnail into it. Recordings also live inside the app until you delete them from the in-app Library. Uninstalling the app removes anything still inside it, but not what you already exported to Photos or a folder.

The teleprompter won't scroll with my voice

Voice-paced scrolling needs the Speech Recognition permission, which CreatorCut requests the first time you enable voice-pace. Turn on the voice-pace toggle in the teleprompter settings and grant the prompt. The script advances as you speak and pauses when you pause; recognition runs on-device. If it still won't move, check that the microphone isn't muted and that Speech Recognition is allowed in system Settings. The teleprompter is a Pro feature.

The pop-out teleprompter window won't open (Mac)

The floating teleprompter is a Mac feature that opens in its own window — handy on a second display positioned under your lens. If it won't open, make sure you're on the latest version and that the teleprompter is enabled. On iPhone/iPad there's no pop-out window; the script overlays directly on the preview instead.

How do I remove the watermark?

The CreatorCut watermark is on by default for free users. Upgrade to Pro to move it to any corner, restyle it, or turn it off entirely. Watermark settings apply to your next take, not ones you've already recorded.

Does my video or voice get uploaded anywhere?

No. CreatorCut has no servers, no accounts, and makes no network calls. Recording, face tracking, rendering, and speech recognition all run on your device, and nothing leaves it. Read the full Privacy Policy for specifics.

System requirements

  • iPhone & iPad — iOS / iPadOS 17 or later.
  • Mac — macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple silicon or Intel).
  • A working camera and microphone. The iOS Simulator can't drive a camera, so test capture on real hardware.
